DSL High-Speed Internet
Price Falling and Speeds Rising

Internet service has transformed our way of life. It has changed the way we communicate with each other. It wasn’t long ago when communication was only done by telephone or through the post office taking many days to send and receive a reply. Now it is nearly instantaneous. Large amounts of information are transmitted via the Internet.

CentraCom has been working hard to bring our communities the latest in technologies. For the past several years, we’ve been upgrading all of our facilities with fiber optic lines. In fact, CentraCom has the second largest fiber optic network in the state, reaching from Salt Lake City to Richfield and to Wendover, Nevada and many areas in between.

As technology gets better, we are always looking for ways to improve our efficiency and help bring better technology to our customers. We are pleased to announce that High Speed Internet service from CentraCom Interactive is getting even faster…and more affordable. Recent changes in government regulations have made it possible for us to increase the speeds and lower the price. Some companies may choose to pocket the difference, but frankly, we’d rather make High Speed Internet service more accessible to you. As of February 1, 2008, CentraCom has lowered the price for DSL High-Speed Internet service by $4/month.

All CentraCom Interactive Internet customers can now get High Speed Internet service for only $35.95/month. We will also be increasing the speed of DSL up to 5 Mbps in most areas matching cable modem speeds by the end of February at no extra charge. That’s over 80 times faster than dial-up. This will result in large savings for our customers. You won’t find another Internet service company willing to simultaneously lower price and raise the bandwidth.

The farmers, workers, and business owners of our communities help keep our country strong and prosperous. Advancements in technology are shortening the distance between local business owners and their customers worldwide. Also, our youth have access to the same educational resources as their big-city counterparts.

As technology continues to advance, the fiber optic network CentraCom has built will continue to be the basis for delivery of the high-bandwidth requirements of the future.

Faster, Bigger, Better Email

There are many enhancements being made to all CentraCom Interactive services. Along with faster high speed Internet, we’re in the process of upgrading our email service.

The new email system will be implemented throughout the month of March for every cut.net email address. Some of the features we are very excited to offer are: larger email storage capability, strong and customizable spam protection, robust fraud, phishing and virus protection. All done on the server side which reduces the CPU usage on the personal computers in your home. Also, our servers are updated 24/7 so you can rest easy knowing we are watching out for you

As part of the new features and opportunities, CentraCom is in the process of a complete redesign of our web site. We have many new features planned for the site. The new site will give you more information and better access to our services. You will also even greater access to your account information. Visit centracom.com over the next several weeks to see the difference.

Earn a Snow College Scholarship from CentraCom Interactive

It’s that time of year again when high school seniors are thinking about the next great step in their lives—college. They are thinking about where to go, where to live, and what classes to take. College is a wonderful experience but it can get expensive in a hurry. Application fees, tuition, student fees, housing, books… the list goes on and on.

Here at CentraCom Interactive we are committed to helping the students in our service areas achieve their goal of a college education. For the past ten years, CentraCom Interactive has offered scholarships to eligible high school seniors planning to attend college. This has been a great opportunity not only to serve our community, but to get to know future leaders of America.

We are pleased to announce that we have partnered with Snow College to bring even larger scholarship value. We will be giving away six scholarships with an initial value of $500. If the recipient chooses to attend Snow College, the scholarship from CentraCom will be $1000 and Snow College will match $250 raising the value to $1250. The scholarship may be used for any college expense, such as tuition, books, housing, etc.

If you would like to apply for a scholarship, please contact Laura Christensen at (435) 427-0642 or (800) 427-8449 to obtain an application. You may also e-mail her. Additionally, you may download an application by visiting our web site at www.centracom.com/scholarship.

The application must be completed and sent in with a 500-word essay (double spaced). This essay should include information about any achievements, accomplishments, or honors received from employment, school and community. Also, explain the kind of service you contributed to your church, school or community. Provide details about any service projects you have been involved in. Share any personal information that will help us get to know you better such as your hobbies and free time activities. We are also interested in scholastic and personal goals for the future.

In addition to the application and essay, we require at least two letters of recommendation. The first must be from a school administrator assigned by your counselor. The second letter of recommendation must be from a member of your community at large. You are not limited to just one letter from members of your community. Handwritten entry forms will not be accepted.

To be eligible, you must be a high school senior and planning to attend college in the fall of 2008. You must also be a legal dependent of a CentraCom Interactive customer.

A committee will evaluate all of the applications submitted. The selection of the successful candidates will be based on the following criteria:
(1) originality and creativity in presenting the essay,
(2) noteworthy involvement in community service and school activities, and
(3) future goals demonstrating a genuine interest in continuing your education.

The chosen candidates will be notified by telephone and by mail. The winners will also be featured in our June newsletter.

Les Haskins

CentraCom’s featured employee this month is Les Haskins. Les has been an employee for just over a year. He works in the Internet department and keeps the network working at optimal levels. He also has a knack for knowing just what computers need to run efficiently. If you have a problem with your computer, just bring it in to the CentraCom Technology and RadioShack store. He’ll have it up and running like new in no time.

Les is married to Carol. Together they have one child, Emily. He grew up in Missouri and resides in Moroni, Utah. He loves the warm winters and dry summers of Sanpete county.

Les can’t seem to get enough outdoor exposure. Hunting brings great pleasure, but there just aren’t enough hunts to satisfy his passion. So he also enjoys traveling the country attending the big NASCAR races. He also is a volunteer emergency responder for Moroni City and Sanpete County Search and Rescue.
